[MuscleTech] Nitro-Tech Hardcore review.
Overall. (3.6) - (6/16)
Summary: Nitro-Tech Hardcore is excellent. It just costs a bit too much for what it is. You can get equally as good (if not better) whey protein powders for less.
This whey does everything well. Excellent mixability, good taste, solid nutritionally. It truly is a great all-rounder.
But I just can't love it.
It costs too much for what it is. You're paying for a brand, and your body doesn't care for marketing. Other whey powders taste more tasty. Other whey powders nourish you more nourishingly. It does mix like the best of them, but that's about it. It's a solid A grade, but it's not that special A*.
If you already own a tub and you're doing the old "buy first – read reviews later", be proud of your purchase. Congratulations – you've got a lovely tub of whey on your hands. Enjoy it and get massive.
However, you probably paid a pinch too much. That's all.
Nitro-Tech is overpriced because it costs about the same as other tubs, but Muscletech only give you 1.80kg of powder (2.27kg is in the standard tub). So whether you like it or not, you're paying more for a logo. If you want to pay a little extra for a brand, get Reflex Instant Whey instead - more of your money truly goes toward utmost quality there.
Protein and nutrition. (4.0) - (10/16)
I wouldn't mind using Nitro-Tech as the benchmark for whey protein supplements. It really hits the mark without exceeding it.
Nitro-Tech | Average | |
---|---|---|
Protein | 75.00g | 75.22g |
Carbs | 9.00g | 9.45g |
Cals/Serving | 208 kcal | 212 kcal |
Nitro-Tech Hardcore is a whey blend, so along with the standard whey protein concentrate you've also got whey isolate (whey concentrate minus more of the fat) and whey hydrolysate (partially broken down whey for faster digestion). Not a lot of whey supplements include hydrolysate, so Muscletech and clearly looking to provide a quality supplement here.
I'd feel very good about having a shake of Nitro-Tech hardcore.
Taste. (3.5) - (6/16)
Chocolate
Actually tastes like chocolate, which is always a good start. Has a hint of bitterness (think Dymatize Whey) and a pinch of creaminess (think Sci-Mx Whey). An interesting combo, but nothing entirely unique. It's chocolatey enough to enjoy, but nothing something I'd recommend you go out of your way to experience.
- You're not going to be amazed by the taste but you will be happy with it.
- It's tasteful, but not powerfully tasteful.
- You'll half-enjoy it as you're swigging but you're not going to wake up in the morning excited to have your Muscletech whey.
Does that explain the taste well enough?
What I'm saying is; it doesn't taste like shit. If you're after something that tastes truly interesting you're better off looking elsewhere. Optimum Nutrition's Whey would be an idea.
Mixability. (4.7) - (2/16)
After unscrewing the lid I knew Muscletech would mix like a champ. It has has that sandy consistency like ON Gold Standard Whey and Dymatize Whey. It's not a fluffy clumpy ordeal like Xtra Whey.
Powder like this mixes itself. Not that you'll ever try, but if leave it sit on top of water in your shaker it will begin to dissolve. It's happy to mix with water and milk. No lumps, no froth. A pleasure to concoct a shake when your physically drained after working out.
The added benefit of powder like this is that it's easy to handle. Drop the scoop on the counter and it's a straightforward clean-up job. Drop most other powders and it would be easier to buy a new kitchen.
